Yep, I have a couple dozen in different sizes for this purpose. I’ve wondered though if the blades are balanced at the factory with the original set screw figured into the equation, or if the difference in mass between that and a “headless” set screw is negligible for purposes of balancing.

I have set screws with a big square head, but the center of mass is so close I can't see it effecting balance.

That reminds me, I had a fan recently with an odd thread. The set screws I had wouldn’t work, but I had a bolt that fit. I cut off a piece of the thread and used a hacksaw to cut a screwdriver notch in the end. Used OxyPho blue on it, and it looks and works pretty well.

The set screw is so small compared to the rest of the blade, and so close to the center as to have negligible effect. You could use a lead ![]() ~Sparky~

Pancake and most blade set screws were STEEL, not brass. The thread you got may or may not be correct. I don't know but do know that most earlier GE screw threads were an oddball size not commercially available. Look for a GE set screw and you should be good to go.

Well, the ones I got fit like a glove, and had a dark finish. Steel VS Brass, I was super careful.
