The Unicorn does exist, this one sold at auction in Dec 2020. To bad they probably won't put you in contact with the purchaser.

Close, but not exact. The thermostat is missing from the lower right side where that screw is and the motor cover is different.

This looks pretty similar, except for the incorrect switch area.

Yes that's the fan but the wrong switch. I have one of these already but I am looking for the one with both the 5 push buttons AND the thermostat on the lower right side. This model is just a two speed reversible rotary switch.

This model is 57W1 and I would assume that the one I am looking for is 57W2. (57VW2 for the Vornado rebranded version)

the bounty ONLY APPLIES to the push button + thermostat model.

Still looking.

It seems that there is some confusion as to what model I'm looking for.

As far as my research has taken me, there is only two that fit this description, one is branded Chelsea, the other is branded Vornado.

The switch/controls will be in the lower right-hand corner of the fan. There will be 5 push buttons total, two for intake high and low, two for exhaust high and low, with off being in the middle. The thermostat knob will be directly right of the push-button control. The decorative bezel behind the thermostat knob, surrounding the switch controls will be made of a thin-gauge aluminum.

The motor cover used on the fan I am looking for has radial style vents increasing in diameter from the center outwards. Chelsea also used a funky perforated metal cover on their fans, usually found on Constellation and Gilbert/Polar Cub.

There are some variants out there that are a bit different. While these are close to what I am looking for, they're not exact. I am specifically looking for the fan my parents had, not a copy-cat. The photo I used in my wanted ad is a close representation of the fan I am searching for with the only difference being the decorative switch bezel which is made of a plastic material and the wrong shape. This is not correct and true to the model I am looking for as stated multiple times, the one we had was aluminum and an entirely different shape.

The photo seen below in this post is the EXACT FAN I am looking for and the ONLY photo I have as proof of it's existence. This is the best I can provide for a description as there are no other photos of it's existence. Due to the age of the photo, the quality is as good as it's going to get. You can just barely make out the controls at the bottom right corner. The circular gold pattern in the lower right corner is the thermostat knob next to the (I assume..) black push-button switches. The decal/paint used on the aluminum decorative panel appears to be a dark blue.

The switch control would look almost exactly like this, but as you can see, this particular model does not have the thermostat control.

The cover over the motor will have this style.

NOTE: These do sometimes fall off and go missing, they're not affixed very well. The biggest clue would be the controls at the bottom right. The aluminum decorative bezel is most important but this model would have definitely come with this style motor cover.

This is the only other proof I have of their existence which came from a Two-Guys catalog that I do not own. This particular model is branded Vornado with a model number of 57VW2. As you can see in the graphic, the fan looks just like the only photograph I have of the one my family had, thermostat included.

NOTE: I have both the Chelsea and the Vornado branded base models without the thermostat. (57W1 for Chelsea and 57VW1 for Vornado) Based on the model number pattern here, I would assume that the Chelsea version of the fan in this ad would be model 57W2, with the "V" being dropped out of the model number because it's not a Vornado rebrand.

As of right now, the bounty still stands. The bounty will be paid for either of two models known to exist or have existed, and ONLY those two! (Unless the criteria below are met by a model I am unaware of) This is not a joke of any kind and I am taking this very seriously.

Details to qualify for the bounty:

The fan MUST be one of the two known models I am looking for, 57W2 or 57VW2. I am currently unaware if ANY other model exists but if there is, the criteria that need to be met are as follows.

  1. FIVE PUSH BUTTONS AND THERMOSTAT, LOWER RIGHT CORNER
  2. ALUMINUM DECORATIVE BEZEL AROUND CONTROLS/THERMOSTAT (Same design as in the picture above)
  3. MADE BY CHELSEA (Typically these are found with a Hoover branded motor)
  4. THREE BLADE MODEL (There is a four blade Constellation branded model, I have this and I'm not looking for another)
  5. RADIAL-VENTED MOTOR COVER (These do fall off and may NOT be present, see criteria numbers 1 & 2 if this is the case!)

NOTE: Frigid made fans that use the exact same pattern as these fans. As far as I can tell, Chelsea sold their window fan design to Frigid/Two-Guys some time in the mid 1960's. There are minor design changes to the Frigid versions and do not qualify for the bounty. I have dozens of these and I'm not looking for another unless it's a rare/unusual color. FRIGID does NOT qualify for the bounty.

He politely declined the reward and we have worked out another non-monetary deal.
