I found this 32v Emerson 27046 on Craigslist.  I knew it needed parts before I bought it (was very obvious from the pics the switch was missing).  But there are a few other bits I need as well:
  • armature cover
  • brush caps, holders (and brushes)
  • switch/speed coil assembly
  • base cover
  • oscillator shoulder screw
I know a lot of these bits n bobs are going to be near unobtainium.  I found a switch/speed coil assembly on ebay with an asking price of nearly $400 (and even then it's not clear if that's for a 32vdc or 110vdc).  I'm not sure that this fan, if complete and operational would be worth $400.

So understanding that it may take years to pull this stuff together, I thought I'd throw my needs out there and see what's available.

My plan is to get this fan completed and running... and keep 'er.  I have precious few actually "desirable" fans in my collection and I feel fortunate to have stumbled across this diamond in the rough.

In the interim, I may try making my own parts.  Seems like the brush holder/caps could be made from a piece of delrin rod, and a switch plate from another Emmy modded with modern components to get the fan running.  Then I could sit back and wait for original parts to come along.  But that's another thread for another time.

Thread with pics is over here:   http://afcaforum.com/forum1/55858.html

NM, I generally dont like to see people comment on BST offerings as I am doing because people tend to turn into a general conversation but think this may help people with parts identify what you need.

In order of easiest to attain:

1. Your switch plate cover is identical to a 27646/29646.
2. Shoulder screw same as 27646/29646. Repos and originals available
3. Switch. The one on Ebay is for a 9” fan and even 9” DCs can be modifed. It is to much for what it is. You can take a 29646 with cermaic base, remove choke stack and modify with 2 waffers from Northwind 450. Wrap the waffers with nichrome resistance wire.
4 Brush holders will be hard to find. Originally brass with square insert. You may have a hard time finding someone to machine square insert in brass but rest is easy to reproduce. I could help provide specs if you get to that point. You can use dark brown acetal for stock.
5. The cover is later 2 screw profile and maybe someone with repos or an original could help.

This is a cover for single screw predating yours. Worst case.....Potentially top ear could be ground away, sides drilled for screws.

Thank you for the replies, gentlemen... especially the info about what is cross-compatible from other fans.

As for the armature cover and the brush assemblies... I wonder if those could be 3d printed... hmmm...

What about the brush holders/brushes from a 450... compatible?

No, 12” brushes are under 1” diameter. Northwind smaller at 1/2”.
