Hi there, I recently purchased an old Westinghouse fan but have no idea when it was made as I can't seem to find a similar one online anywhere. I was directed to this forum by a friend that thought someone here might be able to help. If I had to guess, I'd say the fan was probably made in the late 60's/early 70's. It's an oscillating fan with a plastic base and blades. On the bottom is a sticker w/ the following info: MODEL NO. AT 10-1 .8A-120 V.-60 CY.-A.C. ONLY WESTINGHOUSE ELEC. CORP MANSFIELD, OHIO, U.S.A. PAT. NO. 3,310,692. If someone could help me out w/ a model number or any other information on this fan, I'd greatly appreciate the help. I've attached one photo but can provide more if neded. THANKS! Attached Image (viewed 1566 times):

Interesting, patent assigned to Knapp-Monarch in 1967 http://www.google.com/patents?id=DHxUAAAAEBAJ&pg=PA1&dq=3,310,692&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=2#v=onepage&q=3%2C310%2C692&f=false

I have no way to document it, but I'm gonna say you're right in the range for the age on this thing, maybe early-to-mid '70s. Pre-OSHA guard, but light metal parts and injection-molded plastic. It does spin CCW like a Westy should, but it screams re-badge. It also screams: bell-bottom slacks, chartreuse and olive Formica, shag carpet, pet rocks, and my favorite, the "white-guy fro"... I myself am "made in the '70s", so I'm just going with what I recognize...

One of the last Westinghouse fans before they vanished from the fan industry. They came in a 10",12", and a 16". The 16" model being the rarest of the three.

They came in 16''? Now I will look for one... cool! BTW, Austin, nothing to do with fans, but I am also saving for a "land yaht", A 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. I noticed you had a Caddy in the car thread. Or was it a Lincoln? I don't remember.. I like the big ol' cars

Got it for a $1, cant beat that. ![]() It was a Lincoln. Those big cars are nice rides but you'll be at the gas station every week. An 86 wouldnt be as bad as my 74. The 83 Lincoln I had was actually really good on gas for a luxury car and it only cost like $40 for a fill up.

jeff rusnak could tell you best. i say late 60s early 70s. I have a 10" and two 12". He has a 16" as well, it looks like the 1954 blades... they are still decent, but much cheaper made than the earlier versions

i do like mine, they are not all that noisy and make a decent breeze and the blades dont rust. if you take one apart, they arent like the earlier versions except the blades. very period and i am happy to have them.

YesTom hit it on the head. These Westinghouse fans were from the very late 60's to right around 1970.Ray Hane has a brochure I looked at a few years back and it was dated 1970 and showed these fans along with other Westinghouse fans being made at the time.Westinghouse was still manufacturing the Riverias but they were made of metal and used the later plastic blades, and the Mobilares were also being produced. As for the desk fans they were made by Knapp Monarch/Jack Frost and the only Westinghouse parts were the blades.Very strange HUH ? The 16"looks much like the 10" & 12" but the guard is different and looks like the old standards, and the blades look like the standards, just a very thin plastic. The 16"s are 3 speeds and use the resistor.Yes it does get hot,and kinda glows on low.The very last of the Westinghouse fans.I have all 3 sizes 10" 12" & 16".The Livelyaires ran up untill about the very late 60's,maybe about 1968 or 1969 before being dropped from production. Hope this helps, ![]() Last edited on Thu Apr 18th, 2013 07:46 am by Jeff Rusnak |
