Hello everyone, I am trying to rehab and rewire my first antique fan, an Emerson 79648-AP, and have found myself in a bit over my head. I wanted to open it up to fix a persistent rattle that is worst on low (I suspect it may need shimming or some new end float shims but that’s a problem for another day...) but when I went to move it, the head wire started sparking so now I’m doing a rewire.

The wiring inside is very bare and patched many times. Due to my own inexperience, I wasn’t able to trace the 3 head wires to their connection points in the base and now I’m at a loss as to how to rewire. What method can I use to determine which head wire connects where in the base?
