I checked out the wiring diagrams for BMY, but I have no idea which wire is which.  Does anyone know the resistance that should be correct between each set, so I know what's being hooked up where?  The fan starts (or used to start) about medium on speed one, speed two makes a lot of noise and goes nowhere, and speed three spins in reverse on medium.

This sorta makes sense, but I don't remember any wires being color coated per se.  As for the speed coil, there are 6 wires total - from what it looked like originally, 2 going into the tap, and then 4 going to the positions for speeds 1, 2, 3.  How would I be able to figure out which wires from the stator are 1, 2, 3?

Higher resistance = lower speed

paul, look at the pic of the coil, do your wires come out in sequence like mine?, they would probably be the same, no reason for GE to change.

Erich,

Good diagram.

Back in the summer of 2008 I posted text and photos for GE BMY wiring from a restoration I was working on.  The posting is no longer available.  I hope that post was archived.  Here's some of my photos from the original post I hope they are helpful although it is dependent on what type of speed coil and resistor set-up you have:

Rejuvenated switch and coil.

Nick
