I'm just curious, why is it that every vintage fan cage I've seen (or at least it seems that way) has a bend or a hump on the bottom of the cage on the outer ring? Is that suppose to be like that or is that just a likely place for the cage to bend over the years?

that was mostly factory design to allow forward tilting of the fan without mauling the paint on the front of the base.
