Pre-1950 Fan black green color. Base plate: Type:AOU Form:af-3, says made in China.. Also, has Thai/Thailand lettering badge above the base plate Identification. Front badge says 'amco.. Thanks! You did it right this time! To be truthful, we don't know much more than you do, but we can only guess that GE sold fans to Amco (whoever they are) to rebadge them and sell them themselves. Going by the information on the tag, it dates to about 1930, but the details on the fan aren't consistent with known GE production, so it's a close guess. Thank your for the quick reply.. I have only seen a couple of these 'amco fans on the internet. I appreaciate your insight. If you find out further info please inform me. Also, I will do research as time permits. Thanks again.. Jim

G'day Jim. My guess is Indian. I have had an Emco fan before(made in India),but have since sold it.At a resent auction here in Oz I saw another fan of very similar,blade and cage design etc. Sorry I can't back this up with any firm evidence,but that's my guess on it's origins. The indians have always been great at copying & reproducing.

I took off the osolator cover and there was a small 'ge symbol.. I assume now the fan is origional.. Do all ge fans of this period have this symbol in the top cover? I am considering resoratiom because I know the fan is not in the best condition. But just wanted to make sure it was not a reproduction. Any advise or thoughts would be helpful.. Thank you. Jim

Well there you go! Thanks for the education James. Just tells you how little I know!Sorry I don't know about the oscillator cover normally being stamped James. There are some guys in the club who specialise in GE's. Maybe they can chime in and give you an answer.Good luck with the resto Cheers J

Guess I'm a curious american/english born man regarding the origions of this fan. It's not a copy, I don't think? and I would like to restore it as it was origionally. Just wanted some answers? What is af3?, Who is Amco/the badge? How did an af3?/ GE end up in China? What is the differance between af-1-2-3, exspecally 3? Are the Blades made of Aluminum, Steel or Brass? Everything looks origional GE, stamped steel, trumpet oscellation, magnetic body and base, stamped Iron dimples etc.. Overall, I'll keep it the way it I found it origionally, exported and then re-badged w/ Amco and made in China badge, would like to restore it at some point in the near future. I bought the fan for 2,000 Baht/$60 USD at the 'Train Market outside Bangkok/near my home. The fan has nothing to do with money, but more to do with the understanding, the history and beauty of the this fan. I may/will need a little help with the process as this is the first time I've ever restored any antique.. Thank you so much.. Jim

American University (AUA/Thailand) To: AFCA A few years ago I posted about a GE/AMCO fan bought at a local market in Bangkok. The photos below are other authentic GE fans from the early 1900's located in Thailand. GE markings are within the fan body and in the oscillator housing, they are legitimate GE fans. Rumor has it, that an overseas shipment was diverted into the port 'Phrakanong in Bangkok in the 1920's. The shipment of GE fans were rebadged and ID retagged with AMCO (AMCO is thought to mean America Co.). The Thai distributor/shop badge is also on one of the GE/AMCO fans. Also, while on break from University teaching my wife and I frequently used to go to Began/Burma, we saw a GE/AMCO fan in a small shop, so there are a few GE/AMCO fans throughout southeast Asia. Within the fan photos below you can see the rebadging and AMCO ID tags. Best Regards, Jim Klechak
