Today I took the blade from the 42 inch Ilg 423 fan to a shop who specializes in rotating machinery balancing. They mounted the blade of the 423 in a machine they produce at this facility. The machine spun the fan blade at 500 RPM and calculated the imbalance. They were then able to install temporary weights on the blade to balance it.

This blade was missing a tip and I had to make one out of aluminum which ended up being a little different in weight. This will allow a fully vibration-free fan after the repair.

I will be installing flat weights in the same position of the same mass to make a finished job!

Ironically, the balancer machine is the same color as the fan blade LOL!

See it spinning:

The first business I contacted is in Birmingham. They build industrial blowers and advertised custom balancing service.  They were nearby so I took the blade there and asked them about it.  Their balancer machine was built by IE&M, but it was too large (!) to balance these blades.  They gave me the contact info for IE&M.  While talking to Paul at IE&M, he told me they sold the blower manufacturer a balancer that can support a FORTY TON rotor and balance it!!!!
