Hey all. I just picked up a GE Vortalex FM16V1 and it's in need of a new switch. Anyone have one? I really want to keep this as original looking as possible. I have the original switch knob/lever, the mechanism itself is just shot. Any help is appreciated.

Have you had the knob off? Most times the Bakelite shaft is broken into several pieces. Carling switch makes a decent looking replacement but the knob is slightly different and must be used because it mounts differently. I'm going from memory but I think the switch is part number 700-BL. The knob is black. They don't have brown.

You could try this is your switch can't be fixed.

Some where I saw a person who made a bunch of the replacement switch levers... I just can't remember if it was here or not...   Anyone remember?   I need one too.

I have 2 nos original vortalex switches in stock. They have black knobs and work as they should. If you are interested I have them for $25 each.

I do have the brown switch lever... Well, I did have. It's trashed along with the switch mechanism itself.

Those bits of ground up Bakelite are what used to be the shaft of the knob. What you're holding in your hand is only the top part of what's left of the switch. When the fastening screw on the knob loosens, it allows the shaft to grind to bits.
The complete switch I mentioned is around 15 with shipping.

Thanks Lane. But I think I'm going to get one of Austin's originals, even though it's black. Maybe I'll come across a brown knob eventually.
