Anyone has info about this beautiful orbit fans produced by TOSHIBA back in the 60's ? Were this models ever available outside Asia, as far as you know ?

When I was in Asia these were extremely popular over there and did see some older models. Unfortunately they didnt catch on here in America since more traditional ceiling fans dominated the markets here. They are really cool fans to watch when operating.

I saw them in Asia for the first time as well. Not only is the orbit movement fascinating to me, but these machines move tons of air...really! i managed to buy a couple of old iron blades TOSHIBA from old shops making a good offer ( enough for them to buy a new ceiling fan and keep about 100 bucks extra, which in Thailand is a good amount enough to climb on a chair and unscrew the old fan from the ceiling ...). Of course they were all much amused about the fact that someone would ever collect vintage fans....Main older brands include TOSHIBA - probably market leader about 30/40 years ago, older ones are made in japan but in 1969 TOSHIBA moved fan production to its then new Thailand factory (located in the Chatuchak area ) - followed by SANYO, KDK, NATIONAL ( matsuchita electric ) and...yes...italian MARELLI ceiling fans ! I have never seen so many MARELLI fans like here, most dating from the late 40's early 50's...don't ask me how is that possible ( they probably rewire motors more easily here in thailand ). I've also supposed - as it sometimes happens - Marelli would sale older models to Thailand even when they were already discontinued for the european market. Here enclosed is a 24 volts version of orbit fan for sale here for use on buses and public transport...
If anyone has additional info about ORBIT FANS ...please reply as there is a total lack of information about this fascinating type of fans !

Yes they really are cool ! I had seen them as a child - in latin america as well in the late 70's ( brazil, argentina, etc ) but i don't remember the brand names. The early iron Toshiba fans are quite massive and heavy, with 16inch blades. Sometime in the late 60's or seventies the large iron blades were replaced with dark blue plastic ones (same flower shape ) and later with light blue plastic but "new" ge vortalex-like shape...that they still have today. Years ago Toshiba made a joint venture with Egypt based EL ARABY GROUP that put lots of old stuff back in production....on their site you can find unbelievable stuff that we havent seen around for decades...unfortunately they dont sell abroad...but take the time to check their site !
