Check out ebay item # 263702098195  If this number doesn't come up, you can write "Emerson 77646-CC" in the search box and it should come up.  This fan appears to have an original Emerson OSHA type guard on a 77646 fan.  I didn't know they ever put an OSHA guard on that fan.  Have any of you ever seen that before on a 77646 fan?

I think your fan dates to the early 1960s which was when the fan companies started doing the OSHA cages more.

That is a commonly held thought but it turns out to be incorrect.  "Safety Cages" have been available since the 30's...  I have one from then and also one from the 40's.  I sold one recently from the 50's...

Levi, thanks for the reply.  It's not my fan; just one I saw on ebay that is for sale.  I do think it would be an interesting addition to a serious collector's collection as I have never seen a factory safety guard on this older style of Emerson fan.  If I had room for it, I'd buy it!   I just noticed on ebay, the pic of the id tag says 28 in the corner so that means this fan was probably made in 1948.  I think this is a fairly rare fan.

Like Larry said, safety cages go back before OSHA. I have owned 4, my earliest one was prewar. The last one I sold was a 1953.
