Hello, Forum. I was using my newly acquired (saw a guy roll it to the curb on bulk trash day) Emerson Roll About circulator & had a catastrophic flameout. When I got it the cord was chopped up, so I had a local guitar amp fixit guy solder a new 2 pronger power cord. Worked great for a few weeks, but the last 2 or 3 times I used it it emitted a burning smell I falsely attributed to a different outlet in the garage. By the time I noticed the smell was fan generated- flames. My guess is that it was mechanical rather than electrical in nature as I’d never checked the bearings or lubed it, but what do I know (very little). My questions: -If mechanical failure, can the motor be resurrected? -If not, is it worth finding a replacement motor that has been serviced? -Anyone in St. Louis do reasonably priced repair work -Is trading this carcass to someone here in exchange for a properly serviced replacement plus cash an option? -Are there similar models? I like this one for the hurricane force it put out, its size, portability and aesthetics. Thanks!

I have one of the roll about fans. It was my grandfathers. They are not worth a lot. Having the motor rewound would cost at least $175, if the motor caught on fire it is probably done. With the motor being bad it not worth much if anything. I can't help you with this. Sorry it burnt up. Maybe someone on here has one they would sell, but if they have to ship it, it would cost some $$$ to ship.They where made in the mid 1950's or so.

Check Facebook marketplace. There are always a ton of these for sale in St. Louis. They're too bulky to ship so you should be able to score one for $25-50

Thanks, all. There appears to be one in the area listed on eBay, asking $160. I may pitch ‘em $50 & see if that flies. Till then I have a cadaver motor to figure out how to live & get to the bearings.

Don't fret too much. These are common. Go to fan meets, ask around, they'll be cheap. There was one this year at Fan Fair I think and it didn't go over $30.

Save the fan for parts to sell. Does it have the original wheels because if it does then I would like to buy them.

Heya, all. I'm looking at Roll-Abouts for sale locally. What would you guys recommend as far as maintenance for a newbie? I can swap to a 3 prong cord. Blow everything out & clean? shellack windings? Want to produce a lifetime shop fan.
