|I found this beautiful fan a few years ago in an antique store and used it until recently when the motor was slow to start. I attempted a repair but cannot find anything visibly wrong. The motor spins nicely with the fan blade removed but doesn't have the energy to spin the extra weight of the blades. This is intermittent - sometimes it starts up and runs fine. I can only assume that the motor is getting weak, although it looks okay and is clean inside. When it doesn't spin you can hear the motor humming.
I date this to 1929 because it says Dayton on the hub and Northeast Appliance on the base. GM bought Northeast in 1929 so I figure that's why both names are on the fan. It is in great shape overall, nice black texture paint. Oscillating mechanism works, it's quiet, plug and cord replaced (but not the cord from the base to the motor).
I am asking $35 but please let me know if I am asking too much. I want this to go to someone who can repair it, hopefully. Since it's cast iron it's heavy which will make shipping pricey. I prefer to ship in two boxes - I worry about the blades and cage in the same box as the motor. Shipping from zip 37659.
