And with old fans, naturally the dropped screw or washer or whatever is made of brass, so you can't just drag a magnet all over the place to retreive the lost item.

Murphy’s law says that if you drop a screw or nut or other small thing, it will definitely roll out of sight! And it doesn’t help that my eyesight is not what it used to be. And like Jim, I have been on my hands and knees searching!
