Hi, I am new to the group.  I just bought a GE Vortalex fan for my dad for Christmas. He has been wanting one and I found one this weekend.  It runs, doesn’t seem to wobble or anything like that.  It swivels.  It needs to be cleaned up. Looks like the plug has been replaced.  The wires going into the motor look to be original and seem frail.
I am trying to find someone to help me look over the fan.  I don’t need it restored to original.  I just want to clean it up and make sure it’s good to run.  My dad isn’t a collector. He just thinks it’s cool and wants to use it. He’s a disabled Vietnam vet and I just want to make sure it’s safe electrically and that the motor is maintained so it can run as much as he wants to run it.  That’s the goal.

I’ve called around the local electric motor shops and they said they don’t want to touch it.  Any advice on where to go or who to ask or how to ask for help with this?  I saw a couple of videos on YouTube which appear to be the exact, or very very close, to the same fan that I have.  So I am tempted to try this myself, at least making sure the motor is clean and greased.

Anyone know someone in this area that can help?  Will to drive for help.  Anywhere from the Atlanta, GA area up to Knoxville, TN, or Greenville, SC area.  Maybe even the Nashville, TN area I could travel to as well.

Anyway, looking for some help on where to find help.  Thanks!

Hi Chad. Since your dad’s a veteran, if you’re willing to ship both ways to PA, I’ll gladly go through it for you at no charge and it’ll be ready to safely run for many years.  I only need the base/ Motor stump, so it’ll save shipping costs.

I normally don’t work on other people’s fans, but will gladly make an exception here.

PM me here on the forum if interested and we’ll work out the details.
