Friends, Linda, asked me to post the late Paul Denney's collection will be auctioned on Thursday, January 9 in Sulfur Springs TX on Interstate 30 at Bright Star Antiques.
https://www.brightstarantiques.com

Paul was a great guy & a friend in the fan world I have known for many years. The proceeds from his collection will start a music scholarship fund at a college in his hometown of Paris Texas.

Thanks. It lists the auction as on line only so no attendees. You can bid from the alter.

Sadly Linda did not realize they were selling on line only, she sent me an email last night. I do wish she would have brought them to Geoff's so AFCA people would get them.

Anyone that lives somewhat close might get some good deals. There are some nice ones in there. Too far for me to even mess with it

Save your money for fanfair. You're bidding on a bunch of non-descript fans with a very expensive premium. Wouldn't you much rather buy a fan you can physically touch, see, try and negotiate on?

Looking at the sold prices I’d say it was buy one for a reasonable price and get two for free.

This kind of thing always makes me a little sad. I don't fault the buyers-I would have bid if I lived close. But seeing someone's collection go for pennies on many lots certainly is unfortunate for the estate. I only hope the same does not happen to my fans when I pass and that they go to an appreciative home. Hopefully these fans are in good hands.

I don't live close but I saved 6 of Paul's collection that will stay in AFCA members hands which will be detailed in my log preserving each fans provenance. I agree, this is not how I wish my collection to be dispersed either even though the end goal is a worthy endeavor. If someone would like to share a bit about Paul in a PM which they would like to have added to my log, I will be happy to include it for the write up on each of his fans.

Like I said, put it in your will - if you can get someone in the Association to take the responsibility! That eBay auction that just concluded seemed to fetch premium prices.

There's value in it being done. Were they cheap? Somewhat, but the family is not shipping 100 fans to 100 destinations either, which takes considerable time and effort. The eBay collection was a good way but the family there had the time and patience to do it this way. Shipping fans isn't easy -- or a guarantee you realize the sold price depending on damage. Do what you want with your collection, there isn't a "right way," only a way that makes sense to the family.

I have several fans certain members and aquaintances I like have asked about over the years. I stick a label on the bottom of those fans for the wife or kids to contact, I'm assuming they'll be fair. The rest they can do what they want, I know the wife wants several for herself, the boys may as well. I don't see the wife boxing up fans for eBay or dragging them to meets for 10 years. In the end, expedience has value too...
