Opened up the motor and discovered that the stator had several coil wires broken. Both in the front and back. Didn't look like it over heated. How does this happen!? It's 4 3/4" in diameter and has 3 leads. Anyone have one?

Vic,
I recently had the same problem with a R & M with this same 24 slot polyphase stator.  I had no idea what to do with it except rewind it just like a 4-pole Emerson.  Didn't have a working original R & M speed control, so I mounted an Emerson choke coil to the R & M base.  Ran beautifully.

If I can't find one I'll probably have it rewound. I haven't checked the choke yet, hopefully it will be good. The switch assembly was a project in its self. Out of four mounting screws only one came out with no problem. The other three were rusted badly .

Checked with an old friend who taught me stator rewinding, and he said that the Emerson wind on the polyphase stators works well with the original speed controls.

Still haven't found a stator. If anyone has a stump, I'd be interested. If not going to have it rewound.
