Any of you guys ever file a claim with USPS for Priority ($50) or additional insurance? I had a member receive a fan from me damaged, had a steel cage mangled, - - was lost for a month getting tossed around. All my stuff goes via UPS or FedEx.

Several decades ago I did get a claim paid on a piece of cast iron cookware I shipped by USPS but, for so long, I have used Fed Ex almost exclusively, especially for fans and I am about to go to Fed Ex to ship a PI-241

I have filed several claims with the USPS and have had all of them approved, they require accurate support documentation but are far more fair as opposed to FedEx or UPS. They actually pay claims and haven’t used the catch all of, “It was improperly packed, no refund”.

Generally the sender files but they will allow either party. You need detailed photos of the box, contents, and packing materials along with documentation of value or written estimates for repairs. It’s the government you have to cover everything in detail

As the sender, I would not have access to the box & contents, seems like the receiver would file, but like you said -Government style business.

I would think that ever who purchased the insurance should file the claim.
