Hi all,      Nichrome wire , many years ago on here ,think :wondering: i saw a post on Insulated Nichrome wire ??
Reason i ask ,
from time to time i go thru the process of winding N wire around a circular core , never easy as the wire is very springy ....If i go smaller diametre wire , the more turns i have to make to get the resistance i need ..
ONE mistake and its back to square one ....if the wire was insulated , hey would make life so much easier for me ...
any help ...thanks

I have a rare fan  :D  32 volts ...have made a complete switch assembly , after a member here sent me pics etc of a original one ..rare yes ,there are two of them ...with in the afca ..

Mine is missing a switch ..so

My first switch made from scratch...  The 4 little nuts i bought...rest i done on a little lathe
and a home made attachment to Slit the tops of the bolts .8 mm slot ...so much fun making this ..

A fine fan friend supplied the white electricains "fuse board"   that gave me just enough to cut out ..board had a lot of pre..holes ..

3 speed   ...

Can see why the need for a Nichrome wound resistor ... :D

while im here ...

This fan has a Unique lubrication system ..
A small brass ring, spins from contact with the armature shaft , spinning thru the oil in the cover

cover below ..red arrow is wher oil filler location  ..green arrow  drain plug

in my hand..all brass cast and machined ...one piece

Once the cover is attached , the bolt used passes thru the lower part of the brass ring ..as a sort of keeper

The fan awaiting a speed coil ..

Well , hoping someone can help on the wire  ..and hope you enjoyed the lube..system .
Cheers from down here have a great day  :hammer:

Exquisite work!
That oiling system reminds me a bit of automotive type before full pressure types. You do find interesting fans!

Its also very similar to the oiling system used on the old Century Skeletal motors from the 1910s... :wondering:

I didn't realize the Brits and Aussies used 32v DC electrical systems, I thought the 32v Delco Generators were strictly an American Innovation... :wondering: :?

I used to buy wire from Pelican Wire. They have all alloys, insulated, and gauges. I assume they’re still in business.

I tried "BSG" imagining the large "G" to be gesellschaft, which led........ nowhere...

        excepting British Standard Gauge wire.....

Hi Steve  ,
Received this reply a while back from Pete Moulds
BGS or BSG ?
I have a few ideas on your BGS fan and I think you are right it is likely German in origin or just possibly from a German speaking country.
The design of the label with the plain brass oblongs being stamped with numbers is very like AEG.

AEG named their fan models as follows;
either
G for Gleichstrom  for direct current or
W for Wechsel-oder Drechstrom or alternating current

The second letter seems to be a model number (B in this case and yours too) with the early massive AEGs designed by Peter Behrens.
The number 30 following is the diameter of the cage in cm or 10s of cm in the above case..

I suspect that part of the problem chasing down the name is because the name was BSG. The G being for Gesellschaft or Company in German?

:D..

Here are a couple magnified images of the Nichrome. I did this like the old stuff was made with a wrap vs a braid.

Jan,
Here is an AEG fan I believe and the type starts with G but it is Alt. Current not DC.  Not sure this helps but just additional info.

Jan,

I'm so absolutely thrilled the porotype nichrome gave your rare Marelli a new lease on life. This made my day to hear she happy and running as she should again. All she ever needed was a little more love from you Jan.

As for the Delio....Beautiful, Gorgeous, Amazing craftmanship. I'm certainly not deserving on this. Jan a Claus & Christmas just come early! I'm speechless. (Hope the rest of you get a Marelli under your tree ;o).  This was not something you needed to do my friend. I will treasure this forever. I'm truly honored and grateful to own a fan from a Marelli Master. Words just don't come to type how this makes me feel. Thank you Jan from the bottom of my heart. I look forward to the next project Jan!

Cheers mate
Thank you again.
Tony

Hi mate , it gets better ? looking good .. :hammer:
what was left of the original wire you sent, was enough to wire up to original 3 speed specs
your Delio's  big brother, 12" Bisa

The third fan in the set, rare  16" ball motor Ghibli..
needs a speed coil tooo.. :wondering:

this fan is a daily runner , can operate 24/7,..Built up season here in the tropics ,
my fans do get a work out ..
again Tony, hats off to you mate ...a much needed product .
cheers jan

Hi again....lots of views on this post            great job   Tony,

Back home for a day and next door hands me the post ....

assortment of wire ,   wow ...i ask for pig tail wire for brush holders and  the new improved N wire ..
speechless again ..every thing i can think of, use for wire  is here   !!

Next is color coded wire  ..a signature wire color for use on my fans only  eh  ...

New N wire   ....tony can let you know what im looking at , but is braided...more secure

An example on wire use    :D ...this is a base of a bisa ..
.a slip ring is being mounted ..(where once a tube shaped   speed coil was located)
,        under brass cap in pic....

a new position and a shape ,can now be made for a speed coil ..this is not possible with out Tony's help

Wire
ha where do i want it...:light:..a brass tube with the wire cemented in side ..tube will rotate inside the bored out
center shaft ? bit.... hey bit in pic , holds the yoke .. :P..idea being all will spin 360
proto type was knocked up down stairs ..in pic ..now new plates made for machining ..

great work ..i using/learning  a new phone for pics .
Tony you may want to drop some better pics down here .., .
cheers my friends
jan

Just wanted to make a reply here to state how incredibly pleased I am with this roll of Nichrome insulated wire I just purchased from Tony. I have an 8" Westinghouse switch that needed new wire and the insulated copper I had wasn't creating enough resistance. This particular switch is wrapped several times over and could not be done without insulated wire or it wouldn't work. I have yet to rewind the thing but I have no doubt it will work beautifully. After I wind it I will varnish it with a black varnish as it was originally. I couldn't be happier and it is nice to know we have another original recreation available in restorations.
Much kudos and admiration to Tony's work. I also had some twisted wire and over braid wire in my order and to those of you who have yet to try out his work. YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPPOINTED! Well worth the money in my opinion!
Thanks again Tony.
