Hi GuysI have a Ge Loop handle 12 inch blade fan. I have a couple of them. Just received one that has plastic screw in brushes I think, on the front of the case, left and right of the shaft. Kind of like a Emerson Northwind. Sorry don't have a lot of experience with the fan terms. Im guessing this may be a earlier version of this fan?

If it has brushes then it is a DC fan if it is a loop handle GE. Does it have DC in the cycles box on the tag?

Todays electric is 60 cycles or hertz. That fan was designed to run on half that. Maybe someone who knows more will chime in. Did you plug fan in?

Yes. Seemed to run fine. Made some noise but I think that it was shaft bearing noise.

I have seen a number of GE fans that are 25 or 40 cycles AC but do use brushes. That's that way they were built but I don't know the actual reason why.

I had one that was 40hz with brushes. It ran good on a half wave rectifier.

It should weigh more than a 60 cycle model. More copper in the windings of the lower frequency models. There were still areas not standardized to the 60 cycle system. Exactly why and where I don't know the detailed details. I barely made it through high school.

Thanks guys. Thought it was odd. I have a few of these and have seen a bunch more and never saw those brushes. That being said I am a rookie with these fans. lol.
