Hi everyone.  Last year, I was told by AFCA member Russel Petta that some people were "giving away" fans at last year's fan fair.  Knowing this, and especially the fact that I am a rather low income person, is there anyone going to Fan Fair that might take a few bargain prices for a few fans?  Basically, I am hoping to buy at Fan Fair; one 16 inch 6 blade g.e., one g.e. pancake motor fan (5 speed, either 12 or 16 inch), and maybe, if possible, either one vane oscilator or one lollipop oscilator (either 12 or 16 inch, any brand).  I estimate that the most my parents and I can spend total at fan fair is probably around $350.

Also, I shall need a replacement speed coil for a 12 inch 4 blade 1910 Westinghouse tank motor fan that I will be bringing to the fair for some repairs.

Mike, there will be some bargain fans & a number of give away fans, but I am afraid that the ones you listed will not fit in that group. That being said, I think you will be amazed at the mass of fans that will be for sale & the best thing is you get to check them out in person.

The auction at Fanfair often has some inexpensive and/or bargain fans. Desirable fans don't get given away or go cheaply usually. For $350 you may just end up with a handful or more of fans.

I forgot to tell everyone by the way; I am looking for AC motor fans only.

I finally got a 12 inch g.e. pancake motor fan that runs quite well.  Also, to my big surprise, I even got a Westinghouse Mobilaire fan at the 2009 fan fair!

Still hoping for that 16 inch 6 blade g.e. and either that vane, feather, or lollipop oscilator.  I still simply can not believe that the 2010 FanFair is held all the way in California, which is way too impossibly and hopelessly far away for me and my parents!

Mike-

What's your budget to spend on a 16" 6-wing GE?

We Californians and people on the East Coast have to travel a fair distance every Fan Fair but we still manage to make it, so I hope people will be willing to travel to CA this year, for once.

Evan

I think the large number of inexpensive fans last years was partially due to a big stash of fans and parts from a deceased member that were sold in the auction. I know that two people got good deals on two of my fans in the silent auction: 1946 12" GE Vorty and a steel blade 26646 for a total of $15 for both. Both were complete, straight, and ran well on all speeds. Just needed some cleaning up and/or repainting. You never know what might show up. The previous year I bought a very late GE 12" AOU, straight, complete and working well. $10.

For people on a tight budge Fanfair can be less expensive than you may think.

1. Share a room with others. I've done that for all of my 9 Fanfairs and it makes the lodging cost quite affordable. Like around $135 total for 4 night's lodging. I'll be looking to share a room again this year, probably with a couple of guys from years past but there may be room for another.

2. In the past few years many or most meals have been provided for the great sum of about $75 which is your Fanfair registration cost.

Mike, ya gotta learn to buy, restore/clean and detail, re-sell and buy a better fan, do the same ..again and again till you get your dream fan. I used to do that with motorcycles. With ebay, it is easy.
