i am looking for a mid 50's GE gray box fan motor, 3 speed one direction that runs smoothly without a blade. you can email me at     tdog58@verizon.net   they used these motors in the single direction box fans from 55-59, then made them aqua. As long as it runs smooth i could use and aqua one, once they went to beige they arent the same. Thank you! This is the single bearing unit only used in GE branded fans. tom zapf

matt the single bearing is worn so even without a blade on it there is vibration so it jiggles like heck with a blade on it....the fan is so nice it is a shame. i have heard this is common if the fan has sat for a long time.... thank you! let me know... tom

Hi Tom,

It sounds like it might need to be oiled what you have to do is remove the 2 screws on the back to take the motor off once you have that off you can take the plate off on the motor its in the middle there not easy to remove you can drill a small hole on plate then and pry it off with a small screw driver but be careful they can bend easy just take your time with it and once you have it open there will be a C-clip remove that and the motor shaft will pull thru and you can oil the whole bearing, Let me know if that works if not then the motor bearing is pretty much gone what you said but i am hoping its not
