o-ya!!
Got the tape measure out and everything but forgot to post!!!

16" Please

Just curious as to know a couple things also.....

Are the Cage struts brass or painted steel?

How similar are the cage clamps to GE's?

I can tell that the motor end shape is different but cant really tell how similar the cage side clamp system is from the gallery. The mechanics appear to be the same.

All tank struts are painted cast iron, clips are painted steel, screws are steel painted fillister head.  Clips mount on the rear of the struts.  GE clips mount to the front of the strut.

Is you have a 1905 small motor tank the struts are different and you won't find them but chances of having a small motor 16" tank are maybe 1 in 200.

Even if I could rebalance it's cosmetic appearance is bad..... Whomever tried to fix it before I got it screwed it up pretty good!!!!!

Maybe you can locate a busted 16" tank and use the struts and blade off it, then part out the rest of the fan parts.  Struts are hard to find, the blade less so but you need a blade that will fit the shaft size of your motor.  Measure that and post the shaft size.  If others know EXACTLY what you need they may be more likely to find the part.  And a photo or two of the blade you have as an example could help someone id what they have.

Still looking for a busted Westy Tank for parts.

Need the 16" fan blade that fits a 3/8" shaft (0.375).

Hay Steve............. do the later models of Westinghouse use the same style blade that would use the same blade?

I don't have pictures of the cage struts or know the length of said struts.

But heres a couple of pictures of the damaged blades I do have.

I don't think the Westy blade design changed on 16" tanks or the later stamped steel motors. However, the stamped steel motors may have had a different shaft size. Check that before you buy a blade for your motor. Is there a 16" Westy blade on ebay now or just finished? Seems that I may have seen one recently.

Nick, he probably got his fan with that blade from the same place I got mine: Westinghouse in Pittsburg, PA.

I have the same blade on one of my 16" tanks. It's a 60679 with the 1893 motor tag.

Ralph, what's the last pat. date on your fan's motor tag?

I have several 16" tanks but only the one has the 4 rivet blade. Does anyone else here have such a blade on a 16" tank?

This will explain the 4 rivet blade on my fan. My notes on the fan say that the blade now on it is from a later fan. When I bought the fan on ebay the blade on it had problems so I put on the one it's got now. I don't remember just where I got it by noted that it was from a later fan.

I wonder when the 4 rivet hub was introduced on Westy 16" fans.

Thank you very much for the pictures Ralph!

So am I seeing them correctly? Looks to me like the strut is the same thickness as the cage and also that it terminates right at the cage? Does the other side have a notch to hold the cage against the clip? It must.  It also appears that the clip side has a notch in it for the clip end to fit. Am I seeing that correct? Dont suppose you own a Mic for more precice measurements?

I'm sick of this fan being out of service and taking up shelf space. So I may need to attempt to reproduce the struts. Probably have to do it out of brass. Dont know if that was ever an option but it would look pretty cool. What say you Steve? Did they ever make the 16" tank with brass struts?

All Westy tanks have cast iron struts; the only differences are between 12" and 16" and that the very early tanks used a different strut that won't work on the later motors and visa versa. You'll almost never see the early tanks with their smaller motors.

I'll try to take some photos tomorrow of my struts that are off a tank at present so you can see the profile. Being of cast iron it won't be easy to duplicate in brass or steel but you could probably make up some struts that would look good and work. The strut clips are bent steel.

Levi, some photos of a 12" tank strut are posted in a new thread-
http://www.afcaforum.com/view_topic.php?id=17687&forum_id=1

I can take more photos and add if you want and get some dimensions. 16" struts are the same but longer. The square back ring nestles right at the end of the strut and the clip overhangs it holding it in place. Making these struts like this would not be easy and the hardest part would to be to get the right placement of the cat hairs. That's custom work from my collection.
