I've always loved and wanted one of these H-C basketweaves. For some reason they don't show up too often and, when they do, the price is over $500.

A H-C like this was offered on ebay years ago. I think it was bid to around $16,000 but didn't meet the seller's reserve. Some talk at the time suggested that he only wanted to show it off and not sell it.

I'm still pretty green here, I was wondering if someone could explain the history on this fan? By the way you guys are throwing around the price and I guess you can say it must be pretty rare.

Lewis, you haven't been around for the discussions of the most expensive fans, have you? This HC is only in the high mid-range of pricing.

Nic is on target here, Lewis. There are much more expensive fans out there.

Maybe the highest asking/bid price to this day would be the Edison presentation fan/lamp stand of a few years back. Something like asking $40k.

Is there anyone here that saved pictures of this one? It was also featured in our magazine.

That was a Bayley-Lee. It was a fan but incorporated Edison Electrical items. It also had a image of Edison on the base. Loren found a clipping of a tour of the Edison offices. They described an ornate fan presented to Edison. There is another Baylee-Lee in the Ford Museum.

I called those "light bulb fans" because the motor's shaped like a light bulb. I think that there is one overseas in Asia too, in a collection.

The fan has a lot of Edison's inventions incorporated into the design.  That is why it looks so weird in places. As an example, if I remember correctly, the handle . . top of the ( T ) is a trans-Atlantic cable

The motor screwed into the base like an Edison bulb into a socket.
