Correct me if I am wrong... that fan pictured is a ceiling fan turned into a desk fan?

I fully endorse your thoughts on that one Rocky. I don't know if the gyrating force of the motor will move the deflector vertically like it does when running horizontally. What say you Sherwood, didn't that fan wind up in Peculiar ??

Cincinnati Victor engineer Walter Spear uses Victor's Charles Ryder's earlier spreader patent for a ceiling fan application.

That is the simplest method of giving orbit distribution of wind that there is.
And I've been messing with gears, chain drives gear reduction motors and whatnot....for how long now?

Gotta love it..

Cheers,
Bill

Hi Bill!

That is a tensioned spring device that applies pressure in this case to washers allowing the revolving breeze spreader to turn... The knob is tightened or loosened to apply more or less pressure to get the right amount of rotation that you like... Kinda simple but it works! And that desk fan is the cats meow!!

Geo...

The video is amazing. You be the judge, there's detailed pictures on the site where it was sold. Regardless if it's orignally a ceiling or a desk fan, as it is now it's probably the coolest running fan I've seen in a long time.

I believe it is the real deal and way up there on the cool scale! I would have popped a hunnert thou for that if I had seen it in time! Until Russ's picture I would have questioned if it was proper... So I may have passed anyway... But... I have spent way more on a lot less!

It is definitely cool and giving me ideas....

I'm totally fine with re-purposing a fan...into a fan, like this one.

The desk fans that I have and have seen do not have rotating spreaders. They are similar to Diehl's "Funeral Parlor Fan".
The clips on the spreaders that fasten to the cage are clearly visible.

Lamp or other bases with straps around the motors make interesting whimsies.

Guth made some terrific and very expensive horizontal models.  Some of these are "belt" driven and quite large.

That Victor Revolving breeze spreader concept on those Victor Ceiling Fans? The Japanese and Chinese used that exact same concept with some of their tabletop "Oscillating" box fans in the 1970s and 1980s where they had a rotating grille that you could adjust the rotation speed with a knob in the middle that if you turned the knob clockwise all the way the grille would stop rotating and turn it completely counter-clockwise would make the grille rotate really fast.

I have had these for quite a while and am not in love with them anymore. Several pictures will appear on different posts.

Never seen these before.  They are Victors with Breeze Spreaders, tho they do not rotate.  Both have curved glass shades around the top.
