I bought this fan this weekend, because i loved the design. I had no idea that it was a bronze finish under all that funk. I have not been able to find out any information or manufacturing dates for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

That looks good... I bet with the steep pitch on those blades, and the overlapping design that it is powerful and quiet at the same time!

Those are great fans & pretty scarce. When those blades are shined up, they look great! They were the best fans Delco made!

I believe those were made in the late 30s to early 40s, I do not believe they were postwar, Russ may know for sure.

Delco made a variety of fans. I too have a bronze-finish Delco (photo attached), but it's very different than yours. They were sort of famous for their "flower pedal design" guard. They made a 16-inch fan (all black) which was really impressive with the cage design. I believe (but am not 100% sure) your fan might be one of the later fans that Delco produced, but I would agree with Stan - late 1930's or early 1940's. Nice find! Attached Image (viewed 1516 times):

So far and all my research I've only been able to find one other example like mine but even it was different. It had black wrinkle paint and the adjustment knob on the side was just a w ingnut

The following paragraphs were plucked from RochesterWiki. I've seen earlier Delco fans with labels stating Rochester manufacture... where is the model # information on your fan, Jeremy... I saw one of these fans at a shop the other day, black, great looking cage... "The Delco plant was near the Lyell Avenue stop on the Western section of the Rochester Subway that ran to the other GM plant (now Delphi) on Lexington Avenue. It was originally built to manufacture water-pumping, gas and electric plants for rural customers but, renamed as Delco Appliance, also began manufacturing fans, air conditioner motors and oil burners in the 1930s. A change to exclusively manufacturing automotive electrical accessories happened in the 1950s. DELCO (Detroit Eleictic Light Company) division of GM plant at Lyell and Whitney extending to Broad originally manufactured electric motors for vehicles, and expanded over time to manufacture oil furnaces, refrigerators and other electric appliances such as vacuum cleaners and fans for homes and offices. From the beginning a large part of shipping and receiving was by rail, with an inside loading dock that could accommodate 20 boxcars, all loaded and unloaded by men prior to forklifts at the end of World War 2. Truck docks accessed from Whitney Street only appeared after 1950. Manufacturing continued into the 1960s there for GM. The decision had been made in the 50s to expand Delco Rochester, and a new one story plant was constructed on Lyell Ave from the railroad to Alvanar Road."

Delco also produced circulators. I have a gussied up Emerson with a fancy base and a flower petal guard marked "Delco" in a art deco badge.

I'm sure there are more, but like I said they are pretty scarce.

But the forum displays them with the beginning of the file at top left. If you open the photo in a photo editor program, make one small change (resize etc.) and then save it in the proper orientation - it will upload and display correctly.

I had the sideways picture thing too. I just barely cropped the image while still in my iPhone, and it fixed it.
