Here is my story. I have visited this site now for sometime. I have always been a fan of the site! I never thought I would ever need to ask for some advice but.. I have recently received my dads two 4 blade Mobilaire fans he bought back in the 50s when he opened a furniture store. As a kid I can remember standing in front of them making noises. Is there a after market motor which will fit the 4 blade shaft? I have been told rewiring the motor will be cost prohibited. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The 4 wing Mobilaires are quite good motors and are usually pretty reliable. They have a capacitor that is often bad at that age.  So try replacing that first before considering the motor. It’s the 3 wing models with the hexagonal shaped motors that can be problematic.  Best luck!

what happened to them that you think they need rewire? the capacitors as has been c orrectly stated by lane can go bad, . the hex motors if you catch them in time when they start buzzing can be corrected easily . once burned up though you need to find aa new one

Thanks for the reply, One motor was running backwards. The other was running ok, But all the wires  were frayed. I took it to a local electric shop to be checked and have new capacitors put on both. She shop called and stated the motors need to be replaced also.... ????
