Hi all, this is my post, but I've used this forum as a resource for years. Thank you.
I have three Mobileaire fans, all with the "cheap" hexagon motor. This one was used daily for about two years (in my care). I gently cleaned out the motor and oiled it, but nothing more. It buzzed a bit, and admittedly, I only recently learned what that is, and why it's problematic. Over the summer, I awoke to the motor making a different sound (sounded unhappy, buzzing loudly perhaps, I was half asleep) and before I could address, it made quite the stink. I shut it down. I briefly powered it up the next day, which it would do. It sounded bad and stunk, as expected.

Finally, I'm digging into it. Everything was varnished and painted together, but I suspect the great difficulty in removing the headwire leads is due to their melting into the coils. My questions are as follows:

Aside from checking basic continuity, I'm new to using the multimeter. Is there a good resource for checking resistance and troubleshooting with a multimeter?

Is it possible varnish, friction tape and new leads will heal this thing?

If it's a loss, is it worth recoiling this unloved motor? (not in terms of $$, but reliability)

How can I find a suitable replacement if all is lost?

Many thanks in advance. Cheers!

You might have better luck posting on the new AFCA site. This one will be shutting down in a few days and most of us don’t look here much anymore. And by the way, your stator appears to be bad.  That would not be repairable with varnish. Sorry to pass the bad news.
