I can provide you with a hanger if you like, although I honestly usually just use the regular Hunter hangers from the Originals. The below canopy is the correct one. I am loath to give up parts ('cause ya never know what you might need), but I may have a extra, real, honest-to-God, Hunter canopy I might part with ...

Sounds good. I tried to impress Hunter with my old fan to get free parts from them but no luck. They didn't know what a C-18 was. I told them they used to make them and they were surprised.

They put on a nice show and historical timeline for the 2008 FanFair in Memphis. I have some fun over on another vintage fan forum with the guys that swear by "American made Hunter Originals". They haven't been "American made" since the 70s. I'll get the Christmas photos off the camera and take a photo of what's available.

Hunter canopy timeline. Left to right Typical pressed steel teens through at least 46 (move to Memphis from Fulton) 2 examples of their larger ventilated canopy, larger pipe hole for spiral brass sleeves or there is a special hanger with a built in sleeve in the second photo on a C-17. A cast one that came on a Memphis R52 (46-49). The late 60s through early seventies trumpet in both cast and plastic. That is a plastic one that is NOT supposed to be 2 piece. The 2 piece 70s on Original. They did this in plastic as well as cast. I can let go of the ventilated one with a smushed bottom. Will take some tapping to straighten out. Actually the ventilated canopy is an Emerson, the opening is larger and made to fit around the Emerson hanger, not the downrod.

Check eBay for ceiling canopies. Just make sure the opening is at least 1 inch.

I think my Westinghouse has a Hunter canopy. I could buy new Hunter hanger parts, but it might cost more than the fan. I'll keep looking. Thanks.

What's your downrod length? I can accommodate most any length, and even have a couple adjustables (3/8 pipe slides inside the 3/4 pipe) from 4 to 8 feet. If you don't want *special*, just get Homer's or your local hardware store and get them to cut and thread the correct length of black iron pipe. Cheap and looks good. If no one else jumps in, I will be at my shop on Saturday.

Actually David, you need a 1920s house. Sounds like you have 8 foot ceilings. I have 13 foot ceilings. You have the typical low ceiling blues. This is why *huggers* were made. Blades must be 7 feet from floor by code. With an 8 or so inch tall motor and a 5 inch tall canopy and you see you quickly run into physics problems of fitting 13 inches into 12 inches of space and have room to get it on the hook and make your connections ... This is also why Hunter went to the 2 piece canopy. It is about your only option.

I see your point. I didn't notice the issue because I hung my first fan in the garage, primarily as a testing place. It has 9' ceiling, blades 7'-7" up from floor. Most of the house has 8' ceilings, but the living room has a high cathedral ceiling. I live in South Carolina where we ignore all liberal/communist building codes, but I am 6'-3" and live in fear of low fans. I need to figure out where the fan is going or if I'm going to sell it.

The NOLA house is c1890, originally had gas lights, coal grates. Still has the pipe in the attic as well as that new fangled knob and tube stuff. There is code and there is common sense. It really is a safety issue. I like to keep the blades at least 8 ft up where there is clearance. Wife's brother is 6'7". Let me know what you want. The "standard" 8 ft ceiling downrod supplied by Hunter is actually a 3 inch nipple. That's why you need the 2 piece canopy.

Yes, that will work. Call Hunter (website useless). They should have them. You might want the "antique brass" instead of the polished brass (and it is NOT brass, just a colored lacquer treatment).
