I am attempting to locate a replacement fan for a MA-4020 Westinghouse industrial fan. Mine smoked, but also has a broken motor end casting, so might not be able to repair even if I could find someone to do that. Have had no luck finding repair shop that works on these old motors. Model MA-4020, serial 3202DL, 115 VAC, 60 Cycle, 4 amp. Anyone help me with this? Thank, you.

it would be helpful for you to describe the fan the Hex Motor is in. Not everyone knows the model numbers (or might have a junk fan with it un-readable) . These hex motors in various sizes were used in window, box, mobilaires, rivieras and more... I don't have one, but I bet someone does!

Thank you for the reply. This is an industrial type fan Mobilaire. I'll try to paste picture below. Do you need actual dimensions?

Here are the dimensions as close as I can get them. If someone has the motor with the 3 blade fan still on it, I would be interested in that as well, but I do have the fan blade.

if anyone has a motor for this fan, this is the place to find it. Yes a mobilaire. This motor was used in a lot of fans, but had different rear-side mounting for some, and also came in 2 smaller sizes... good luck!

Charles, sorry to bother you again, but would you possibly have any parts for these motors? The "A" end casting on mine is broken. Would you possibly have one of these parts you might want to sell? It is the end opposite the fan blade Thank you again for your time. Kirk

someone has to have one that quit working. the windings can come loose which can cause burn-out, but there is a method of repairing that, I have had good luck with mine.

Thank you for your reply. I have yet to find someone who is willing to take on the repair, but before I do that, I would need to find the casting so it can e replaced, too. Thanks you your info. If you know of someone who can repair these motors, please share their name with me. Thanks again.

It was a cheaply designed motor. I am not real familiar with them, but wonder if you can modify another quality used single phase motor in it with the same blade shaft size? Skip the old wire harness and run it with a variac, or find a speed coil for a second lower speed.

I know where some functional units are that people use, that is the problem. You would need to find a rust bucket to strip the motor out of.

Start reading your motor patent description from the beginning and count the number of times the words "low cost" is used. :D

Russ, Thank you for the great information. My ON/OFF speed switch works like new. Problem is the windings smoked and, of course, the housing is cracked. I am trying to fix this because it was my grandfather's and it is an 9mportant piece for me. I will continue to search for a good used or undamaged one I can get repaired. Thank you again.

Keep in touch with Tedrick. Bump your post here now and then and write......."What's new for motors Charles?" :D  Tedrick won't forget you. He may ask you to trade the motor for some organic farm raised chickens.......or one of them there Angus cows! :D

There are a number of those circulators still out there, hopefully there is a rust bucket cheap at the side of the road with good hexagon motor and your name on it. Good luck!

Kirk, I have that fan and that motor. I replaced the motor a couple of years ago after rewiring the switch .( which was running perfectly). Apparently I rewired the switch incorrectly. Now, it begins to smell hot after about three minutes of run time. I will give the motor to you for the shipping. Click on my name, and P.M. me if interested.

Not to be nosey, but, do you have the wire schematic for the fan switch or for this fan and motor? You did mention you wired the switch for the fan. I may need it if I can find someone to work on it. It would be helpful. Thank you. Kirk

Mine needed a switch, which I bought at Ace Hardware. It was almost identical, but one extra wire. I assumed I guessed wrong. I don't know what went wrong with it, but it popped once, and I unplugged it. I tried it two or three times afterwards, for a few minutes only, and it always smelled hot after a few minutes. That has been a couple of years and I cant remember if it was running on both speeds, but it was running.

Well, if I can find someone local to repair it, I will let them know what happened to it. (but probably not how, LOL) Do you have a local repair shop there that will repair them? It might be good to get a name or number for a lead. Thank you again.

No, sorry, that is why I attempted to fix it myself. There is ONE guy around here, who has rewound thousands of motors. He is convinced I could not afford to have him rewind a worthless old fan motor. Pretty much his exact words. He thinks you could buy any fan on the planet for 10 bucks.

Yes, I got the same treatment here. 3 local shops told me to just throw the fan away and go to Walmart and buy one. They will not even touch them. I think I have found 1 local guy here, but haven't talked to him yet. But you know, since the poles probably only have about 150-250 wraps of wire, I may try this myself. There are only 6 poles. I have wrapped armatures and fields before, but only on DC motors. Automotive starters alternators and generators. But they worked when I got done, so maybe I will toy with that. Finding a 5 wire loom will be the issue. But first, I will talk to someone who has done this 100's of times before. I'll let you know what happens.

Lamar, one more question. Would you know of anyone who would have the wiring schematics for the windings of this motor? AND does anyone know what the part number of this motor is/was? I'm sure I will have more questions, but that's it for now. Thank you for all your help.

Thank you for all yourKirk, have you looked at all the post on Mobilaires in the Search function? Look particularly at the post from 7-05-13, I believe it was. There is a lot of experience on this forum concerning Mobilaires, and a lot of expertise, but sorry, I don't have it.

I know where a mobilaire with that motor sits. The switch knob is missing and the turn shaft is all chewed up. It would not start, but why.......?  The motor was intact, no fractures in the housing. The shop may sell it cheap?

Russ, I would be interested in this motor, if you can find out more info on it, such as cost. Shipping it to me would be no big deal. Please let me know what you find out. THANK YOU!
