Looks like an interesting frankenjandus with all jandus parts. Cage & base likely belong to each other , motor , yoke & blade likely off of an abandoned gyrofan. Great parts for 2 different projects. ![]() ![]()

Fig. #5 in the diagram is the Jandus Ball motor direct current 4 position switch. Count how many switch lever contacts there are. Fig. #4 in the diagram is the Alternating current 3 position switch. Depending on how the laminated stator brushed ball motor was wired is what circuit it would tolerate. To short out the brushes resulted in a AC induction repulsion motor. To wire the motor in series resulted in a direct current fan. Attached Image (viewed 1213 times): Last edited on Fri Jul 17th, 2015 10:23 am by Russ Huber |

Just turning it 180 degrees (right side up) would help!

Bill Hoehn wrote: Just turning it 180 degrees (right side up) would help! Hahahahaha!! Bill is right. The motor is not only upside down, but it is in the trunnion backwards. However it is the rather rare AB/National Tack/Or whatever motor, and that's probably why the price is climbing so high. Get the correct bulbous base for this and you would have a super nice fan. A wire trunnion with this type motor sure looks better than with the ugly toaster-side ball motor!!←Sorry, I am racist towards ball motors on fanz!!!

So is this fan legit or a Franken fan? What fan does this base go to? Last edited on Fri Jul 17th, 2015 07:24 pm by Chris Smith |

The stand and switch are from a ball motor stationary Jandus and the motor and wire mount are from an AC Jandus. The cage is most commonly seen on early ball motor Jandi. It did not leave the factory in its current configuration. I was going to bid but it has already exceeded what I would have paid even though I have the correct base for the AC motor and the correct ball motor for the base and switch.

The Jandus desk and bracket round ball was designed that the AC model had no speed control from resistance wire located within the base. It was intended to run on two speeds. How was the motor speed adjusted on the AC round ball model?...... ![]() Take a break on this one, Kovar. ![]()

Hey, the Joe that has his cross hairs beaded on this one has Jandus/AB parts. All Joe would need is a Jandus round ball motor, wire the motor in series to match the 4 position switch, and ........viola! ![]() Next a 09 + Jandus/AB base for the existing motor and trunnion. Or......11 + gyro with identical opposing motor. If you have the parts you can get a double whammy out of this one....fact Jack. Last edited on Sat Jul 18th, 2015 09:24 am by Russ Huber |

Stephen, somebody retracted their bid, almost halving the BIN. If you have the parts, you can turn this into two very rare fans!!!

Russ Huber wrote: The Jandus desk and bracket round ball was designed that the AC model had no speed control from resistance wire located within the base. It was intended to run on two speeds. The true as advertised Jandus alternating current round ball desk and bracket fan motor gained two speeds based on how the fan was wired and switch position. So far I have only seen roundball Jandus desk fan bases with cast in 4 position markers on either DC or AC models. Maybe rather than cast a special switch lever markings 3 position base for the AC models, Jandus just modified the same switch used for the direct current models. The AC round ball was advertised for years in the electrical trade journals for two speed adjustments gained THROUGH THE MOTOR, NOT THE SWITCH. The AC model was special wired that based on switch lever position the fan would run on either a series wired or Parallel wired circuit. Series wired would offer more ohms and reduction in fan speed. Moving the switch lever on the parallel wired contact would offer less ohm through the windings, thus increased RPM. Last edited on Sat Jul 18th, 2015 10:32 pm by Russ Huber |

Would the base on this one be the right one for the nice Jandus motor? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-12-Antique-Jandus-Adams-Bagnall-Electric-Company-Fan-3-speed-NEW-PICS-/271939090904?

Don Tener wrote: Would the base on this one be the right one for the nice Jandus motor?Yes that is the base. Although a tad high in price, I am surprised that this fan has not been sucked up. Today, people right here are selling/buying common GE BMY fans in the six hundred dollar range. Why not get a much more rare Jandus BMY like this one? It works, all 3-speeds. Well worth the $685 the seller wants for it. If you wanted to buy both fans, you could install the trunnion and AB motor to this base. But I wouldn't only because the GE motor fan here is complete.

the motor on the ebay jandus is from a gyrofan i believe as it has terminals on the front for the head wire instead of a hole

Which fan Chris? The BMY fan in the auction Don posted just above has the standard headwire port on the front of the motor, motor is not Centrifugal, Russ says the gyro BMY motors were centrifugal, and on this one here, there is no centrifugal switch. Geoffry Dunaway educated me several yearz ago, on BMY Jandus gyros...He said Jandus made a special terminal that mounted on the front of each BMY motor. All of the AB/American Tack centrifugal motors have insulated terminals on the front bottom of the motor, like a pancake, but on the front instead of the rear. Makes changing the headwire a breeze on the desk fans with this motor.
