Rare, Lonegren belt-driven Box Fan, 20" diameter, 2-speed. Has a shaded-pole motor design which is unusual and slow to start, but then it screams once up to speed. Rare 12" Emerson Exhaust fan with shutters and wooden frame, think it's from the 1950s. Has some surface rust but runs well. Would make a nice restoration piece. $25 final markdown. Thank you Chris, I had one that was a 3 speed exhaust in the box and was minty, not as versatile as reversible. I had a reversible version also a country aire with a switch panel down on the lower right. Sold it and wished I had not. it was a composite with an international motor and blade and lakewood country aire body... it will be good to see you! I may have a big belt drive fan for you to take home.. hmmmm |

Tom, the one that you sold has been the one that I've been looking for. It was the first fan that got me into collecting fans period because I remember seeing it in my great-grandmother's upstairs window. I'm pretty sure it was a Country-Aire with the same round motor housing cover but with a 3-speed push button reversible switch in the lower right corner. If I remember correctly the push buttons were vibrant colors and the housing was a aqua blue or green. There must not be many of these ultra deluxe models left. I haven't seen one since, other than the one you mentioned. The only downside is that I don't really have a good window that any of these fans fit other than Homarts because I can use the extra expander panels to fit the width of my wide double-hung kitchen window. It only goes 21 inches high which fits the Homart height perfectly. It seems most direct drive window fans are over 22" high for the height of the overall housing/baffle. I wonder if anyone has any Lakewood literature from this time period. Ray Hane had a later product brochure that he brought to Fan Fair in St. Louis but they were much later models. The country aire window fan I had came out of our town recycling center (read "dump" and it had a fasco motor that was toast AND the 4 rivet blade BUT with a 3/8" shaft not 1/2" like all the other lakewoods!. anyway I transplanted the international 3/8" motor (Universal brand) in to it and could use the Lakewood blade or international blade. Still kicking myself for selling it. In my apartment house a neighbor had a fan like yours but with the switchbox down to the right, just like my rotary model, but it had colored pushbuttons for 2 speeds and reverse. It was to be given to me when she moved but the sister wanted it. The 3 speed exhaust only model I got at a yard sale in the next town was something less than $5 and it came in the box, whistle clean. Knob in the same place as yours. The pushbutton models come up from time to time, but the "more" deluxe model with light, pushbuttons thermo and square basked back seem more common |

My belt-drive fan intuition  tells me that it is possibly a Reed or maybe a 24" or 30" Emerson attic fan. I bet whatever it is, is a beast. It will be fun to see it. I'll see how much room we have going back home in Ray's car. I bet it was a nice fan! These have a major nostalgia factor for me. I just wish I had the right windows for them. My grandmother's model may have had the pilot light but it's been too long ago to remember. Very carefully, it will depend on how much room Ray has in his Cadillac, and how much I sell. If someone buys the Rex 24" fan and Lonegren box fan, then I'll probably drive separately as I've got a cavernous trunk for the most part. We're hoping to be able to travel in the same car though as it's much more entertaining on a 12 or 14 hour trip. Hi Tom! Ray and I arrived back in Chicago by 6:30 yesterday and then I made it home to Peoria from Mike Mirin's house by 10:30. We had a great trip back, no bad weather. Oddly enough, we had to drive pretty far into Pennsylvania before we found hotels with vacancy. There was nothing within a 60-100 mile radius around Allentown. There must have been some kind of large tourist event Thanks again for all of your hospitality and putting on such a great fan meet. I'm sure it's a lot of work and time. I really enjoyed seeing all of your fans. We get into the same kind of stuff. I still have that beautiful American Coolair fan in the trunk of my car. I'm giving my back a brief break before I bring it into the house. I may put an extra mesh guard around the back of the fan and attach it with small magnets to make it "cat proof." I looked at the Lakewood last night to see why the switch was sideways, actually it was just the label and the knob (the fan might have been mounted vertically at one point, but sure enough the wiring crumbled from switch to motor so that will get redone Saturday morning and in the window it goes, with good oil too. Enjoy your new finds and thanks for coming! tom |
