I just bought a rusty Emerson 77648-AW with date code 33 .  The fan works on all three speeds.  The oscillator does not seem to work.   I plan on breaking it down to clean the surface rust off of all of it.  There is a collar on the shaft of the pedestal portion just under the head.  Is this fan capable of raising and lowering to adjust height . Pedestals are new to me and I dont want to break anything.
Sorry for the sideways pictures .  I am still working on that .

Ok i figured out the disassembly.  Is that tube inside the 2 height tubes made out of cardboard or pressed asbestos

Definitely cardboard. I'm sure you will, but pay close attention to the length and how the wire coils up in the base. Seemingly simple at first glance, but can cause problems later if not done right with raising and lowering. Best of luck with your project. Simply great running fans and worthy of extra love to bring back.:D

You most likely know this (I make mention for those new that do not), but the oscillator has an adjustment that can vary the oscillators range of sweep from stationary to full and inbetween. If it is a problem with the oscillator, they are plentiful and easily found as unit replacements.

Just a warning about below pictures.  I am in no way a professional painter in fact i hate painting anything.  But I figured I would try.  This is the first fan I have ever tried to paint.
My wife picked the color ...

Hey, you saved an old well worthy Emerson Fan for duty, take a bow and hope it sees use.:D Thanks for taking the time to post and share photos.

Most here feel the person doing the work is fully entitled to their color of choice. Different color, nice job.

Have you identified your next fan rescue project? It starts with one and then wherever you go, you start seeing old fans and another will catch your eye and attention...:wondering:

I think Emersons are great fans and I try to buy them when I can .  Maybe since I let her pick the color on this one she will let me keep it in the house.  She hasn't allowed many of them in out of the workshop or garage unless she likes them lol.
