Tom is correct, Russ. Otto's fan is the BOTTOM drive Bates. The patent drawing you posted is of the TOP drive version...similar, but with top-facing rotor. Here is an image of the TOP drive fan:

Yes, but the patent date in question is used on the fan motor posted for sale here. Is the use of the patent date on the fan motor here in the BST for internal motor construction, or something shared by two different fan motors? Keep in mind, I did not post a DESIGN patent. Many patent features displayed on per say a fan motor tag cannot necessarily be seen from a cosmetic standpoint.

The patent specifically mentions the arms are on top:

Our invention relates to improvements in electric fans in which the fan-blades are mounted above the armature and held-magnets.

We need to meet at Chuck's and take his fans apart to see about motor aspects.

Most certainly, I am going to put this on top of my list of priorities for the near future. :wondering: Hope Chuck is feeling up to it.:D

Russ, the electrical motor aspects are identical...difference in armature/hub configuration only.

Bingo, Chuck! This is where one patent fits at least two different ceiling fan designs.

I have seen plenty of patent numbers on items when you look them up ya think "What in the heck is that for?"

Gorilla (or hoping for) pre-emptive marketing.

Item was sold? But when did any price for the fan even appear? I sort of understand when a seller lists a price and removes it once the item was sold, though I wish the sale and price could be archived somehow as a Members Only sub forum or something. Again, I'm very happy for the seller and buyer, and I sure as heck was not even close to being in the market for such a cool item. But I admit I'm confused as to why the moderators didn't insist on a posted price or remove the post. Now, if there was a window where the price actually was posted, then shame on me.

Where was the price? Why wasn't this booted 1st day it was posted with no price?

Did you bring it to the attention of the moderators?  They are not omniscient.

This one has no price (even though I know what it is):
