I have opened a store on the Maryland eastern shore.  While I do sell antique fans, lamps, heaters, telephones, motors, vacuum cleaners, switches, plugs & sockets from primarily pre-1930, Chestertown Electric is primarily a museum that allows visitors to touch and operate early electrical items that they probably don't even know ever existed.

The store is small, but I have a large workshop in the back with "clean" and "dirty" shop areas.

If you are interested, you can follow developments on the store's Facebook page:

Congratulations and I hope you do well. I have seen a few picture of the inside and a lot of thought went into it.

Beautiful store David.   I wish there were others around the US and hope you get some good interest and sales.

Thanks for the kind comments. It took me long hours to set everything up. I tried to model it after photos of electrical supply houses from the 1920's. I'm still putting price tags on the 200+ items. People enjoy the experience.
The telephones connect to the land line so visitors can call their friends. A lot of folks have never dialed a phone. One kid comes in just to turn on one of the old motors. I have a 1910 GE space heater running to keep it warm.
Most of the lamps are from around 1915.

My main business so far is rewiring old lamps. Seems like everyone has one and the nearest competition is more than an hour away.

Now that I have finished moving up from SC, I finally have time to restore fans again. I have several projects in work: Century Skeletal, 1902 Pancake, Menominee Clamshell with custom sky blue paint and 5- or 7-wing blade (not sure yet) , copper oxide Emerson Longnose, and copper oxide Emerson CF-20 ceiling fan. Plus, I have 18 other ceiling fans and a few GE and Emerson desk fans in the back that I will restore for customers.

The hours are odd because I have a day job to pay the bills. If you want to visit, let me know and I'll open for you.

Chestertown is a small colonial-era college town on a river that feeds the Chesapeake Bay. If you travel up the coast and have extra time, it's on a peaceful route that avoids the anxiety of I-95 and the gridlock of the DC area.

I travel that route frequently between Virginia and some work trips to Philly. Route 50/301 is definitely nicer than I-95, but watch your speed. I will make arrangements to come by on one of my trips.

The store looks nice and I look forward to seeing it in person!

Look great David! Got tired of the heat and humidity down here? :P Hope you plan on coming down in April but certainly understand if now. I have a hard enough time making it and Darryl only is just over an hour from me...

Every time I look at the weather and see that it's 40 degrees in MD and 65 in SC I wish I was still there.
I plan to make it to the Aiken meet (my favorite).

Chestertown is a nice place to visit.

You can stay at the White Swan Tavern, a 1700's inn:

https://whiteswantavern.com/

You can sleep in the old kitchen:

Whoa, David, slow that camera down!  It's swimming all over the place and offering vertigo-inducing and tantalizing glimpses of the things on shelves and in cases without giving me a chance to examine anything :D

I want to poke through all the smalls.

Chris

I kept calling plugs sockets and got my finger over the lense, but here you go, Chris - another video.

I like collecting all the different types of plugs and sockets. I've seen lots of inline Hubbell plugs, but the types with cable clamps are pretty rare. I would have a much nicer collection if I started collecting back before I was born.
