I'm a graphic designer. Is there a need here for Water-slide or Vinyl decals? How much would y'all pay for them if you needed one? Is there already someone here who makes them?

Maybe? It depends on how well you can produce something to match original numbers and lettering, IMO. Different members have produced speed control numbers in the past. I do not know what inventories are. You might want to show samples after waiting for other member responses regarding their preferences.

I mean if I can get a good quality photos with the proper measurements I can replicate to near exactness aside from the method of transferring. If there's a need for it I can produce some samples.

Been doing my own. It's not too hard if you have a decent graphics editor and a good printer.

Maybe, one thing that I haven't managed to do is make metallic, (i.e. gold or gilded) decals.  Can you do that?

Silver Swan motor decals would be nice. There are already a number of them floating around for the base. I have a few.

Cheers,
Bill

I have R&M, GE BMY STYLE, and Century 5 speeds in both "slow" and "5"types.
Most of my labels are metallic gold, but I also have the Century in metallic Silver.

I believe guys have used the individual numbers to do other types of fans by dividing up the decals into individual numbers.

Got one roughly done. Busy week. But I managed. Is this to the quality that you all look for??  (I'm now working on the Emerson Fan Motors Pyramid badge).

When printed with the right specs and and software files, there is no pixelation. This is merely a sample.

Looks nice, I believe there is an interest in the various switch numbers also.

I wouldn't mind having one like this Westinghouse. Someone here makes them out of thicker plastic but a water slide would look much better as long as the black on it is not see through.

Here's another draft. Anyone interested? I have the decal paper on the way and I'll practice on some metal sheeting and open a selling platform. Next I will probably work on a Westinghouse badge. Stay tuned...

Edit: I can't make the background white at the moment, but if the decals sell well I will be able to in the future. The decals I will be selling will have a clear background to be showing the zinc or brass or any other metal underneath.

Hey Lane.
The beginning profit from this will pay for my membership. To be frank the more you push for me to buy a membership the less I want to join. I have noticed that method push other guests away from potentially joining. Some people do not have the $45 to spare for a membership.

Then make it a rule! And I am not selling anything! I am about to open a decal shop that will hopefully allow me to join as a member. Literally the first $40 I make is going to go to the Association. That's the only way I can afford it, and justify to join.

I'm with Don on decals for the Westinghouse Darth Vaders. The 12" & 16" s use the same size badge so I'd be  willing to pay for a few no matter the $$$

I'm all for people providing a service in need.

Why are we doing the "Built to Last" badge though? I might be hazy (it is Monday afterall), but aren't most of those raised. The screen printed badge like the Pyramid style and later were screen printed and commonly were worn off. I think those would be the ones to focus on.

The AK Series has the Built to Last badge printed on from what I understand. But I plan on making a myriad of badge decals for anyone's needs.

Hey Geo,

I'm having some issues finding a printer that will print to my standards, but once I do I will open a store with prices and post the link in the BST forum.

I'm getting really tired of the members bullying people in these forums. Let the moderators do the policing of the rules.  No one wants to get berated for trying to be helpful. Yes Lane I am talking to you.

Well I belong to 15 or so forums and this one is the only one that charges  for membership!!
There is a lot more information on some of these forums art no membership fee.
I could see if the guy didn't see where he would  have enough business  he wouldn't spend the money for a membership.

OK, I'm going to say that it's time to drop this back and forth about membership for the sake of the club and the forum rules.  If people want to support this guest, then they will, if not, then it's their prerogative not to.  I deleted my initial comment as it seems to be fueling this exchange.  Alec, join or don't- I could care less.  I thought that if you joined it might help the amount of support  (and sales) you get from the members. And also help you to learn more about the hobby by unlocking added content on the website.. As far as the cost of membership- it costs $$$ to sustain a club, and even to maintain the web presence (not to mention the magazine). If everyone were to stop paying dues, then the club would not exist.

Let's be kinder about this matter, and move on.

That signal badge is intricate and not many people need a badge like that. If I did a badge just for you it would exceed the cost of your fan.

I agree Lane. Let's drop this petty arguing. In my honest opinion, I believe it should be your perogative to support every guest, because even though you may not agree with a lot of them, you never no when one of those guests might be an old lady that you can snake a Tesla out from under her for $30.

"Kindness sustains" "Kill them with Kindness" Those should be the phrases we live by.

Hey Charlie,

I could do the design with the right materials , but just to clarify I cannot make metal, embossed badges. Only the decals.

Charlie this is an association, or club that you are buying a membership in not a forum to strictly chat about fans.  I feel the annual fee is more than fair for what you receive.

All I m looking for would be a decal and I will make my own badge  the decal could be black  back ground and gold on the other.
There may be others that would want them?  if not ok

I might make those. It's all dependent on demand and if this is as lucrative as I hope it'll be.

To me, in the interest of the club this entire thread and it's bickering should be should be deleted from the forum. I'm not going to take the time to reply to Alec's parting shot.  I guess he can't let it be.  Gotta whack the hornet's next one last time.

Also there have been no prices posted on these labels, which if I recall is a requirement to post here.

When he has actual product and pricing, then it seems more appropriate for the BST column.

I actually agree. I forgot about that rule when I had posted this thread. I meant for it to merely gauge if there was any interest in decals. Bickering aside I have learned there is and I'm currently figuring out the best method to print them on the decal paper. As for the prices there is no way of posting a price since pricing will rely solely on the intracacy of the badge and time it takes me to vectorize them. If the moderators decide they want to delete the thread then I support them, though for the resource of other members it may be better to move it to the Antique forum. If anyone has a request or question about a decal, please PM me. Out of respect for the association I will not post on this thread anymore.

Sincerely,
Alec

Thanks Alec-

Moderators- please remove all content not directly relating to the decals themselves and move this to either the pre-or post 1950 sites.  I think it'll be the best way to proceed. Perhaps when Alec has product available, and pricing it will be appropriate for this thread-  Thanks

A laser printer is the way to go. Photo printers are mainly inkjet, and decals need to be clear coated. I have made quite a few decals for badges...
