I have the exact same Vortalex, Cat: FM10V21. From what I have been told, I think it is 1947 or 1948. That would put this fan in the pre-1950 section. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

You've got the rarer 3 wing model which is more desirable than the much more common 4 wing model.I just about bought one of these a couple of years ago but then decided on buying a much more rare nickel plated R & M 3804X fan which was actually cheaper than the much more common but still rare 3 wing vortalex that was at the antique mall I was at.

I have one of those that I run quite often. Great fan, and has that awesome Vortalex sound to it. Sounds exactly like my 16” Vortalex, only quieter. Also, they never made a 4-wing 10-inch Vortalex. All of the 10-inch models are 3-wing. Last edited on Mon Feb 17th, 2020 08:29 am by Zackri Higgins |

Paid $35.00 for it here at antique mall in spring Tex had a Presidents’ Day discount. Will start cleaning it up next week will and be sure to keep the pictures coming

Looking for advice on disassembly of this GE fan. Blade and cage came off ok but looks like the fiberboard bottom will have to be pulled and replaced can’t get to the wiring under the base any other way. Also are there any plans available for it wiring and so forth ??

Mine had a riveted on fiberboard base plate, but the base plate is missing and the rivets are still there.

What you say confirms what I found. The rivets were not there and the fiberboard looks like it was glued to base and it came apart when I pried on it. Almost looks like the coil got hot or shorted out at some point. I will have to replace the fiberboard at some point after I go through the rest of the fan and get it back running. Thanks for your help will probably be reaching out for some more before this project is finished

Here's a picture of the base of mine. The rivets almost look like brads from the bottom. I'm pretty sure my coil is burnt out. If yours looks kind of charred, and the fan doesn't work or doesn't work right, you will need to rewind it/have it rewound. I have not gotten into mine yet so don't really know how to disassemble it yet.

Your coil and switch looks better than mine. It would run but very briefly no sparks when plugged in. No brads and fiberboard appeared to have gotten wet. I had to chisel out the remaining fiberboard after I removed the coil and switch. Coil will need repaired I’m sure see attached picture

Where can I get the coil from a Vortalex cat. FM10v21 Ge fan repaired or replaced A parts source for the entire fan would be good too.
