I’m needing one. Do they fit good ? Or Additional matching / fitting required? Thanks!

Stephen...a slight filing with a jewelry file to remove the debris in the hold to allow the shaft to go in. This was done on purpose to make sure the fitting was tight due to shrinkage during casting. Again...very slight. The only thing to do is to drill the two mounting holes...this was a mistake on my part as it was my first gear box I made....was not thinking ahead. I have tried this already and it works good with the gears. Stephen Miller wrote: I’m needing one. Do they fit good ? Or Additional matching / fitting required?

They are most probably after the gears...I will be casting those as well...in bronze or stainless steel using lost wax. Steven P Dempsey wrote: I just saw a Busted Kidney fan go for $650 on feebay!!

Do I think these fans are worth that much? Definitely NO! I do it because it is a hobby and certainly an interesting project. The only ones that even come close to the asking price are the pristine ones...no crack gearbox; six blade....brass ring a bonus! I thought my Kidney fans were perfect until I started out cleaning them and noted the micro-fractures hidden underneath the paint/grease. It would appear these are made of the cheapest metal possible...don't know why. The fan is solidly built. Even the pointers will break. You will noticed most of the wing points have the back end snap off...very cheap metal. I have made the molds for the double wing pointers and taken down for molding...just need time to pick them up. My plan is to keep one good example of a six blade. Modify another six blade with all the bells and whistle (brass ring, brass gear box, brass pointer)...bling it up). Again...these are cheap fans and fun to mod. I did see one without the broken gearbox...under 300...can't even sell. To me, I think people are hoarding the gears. I have 8 sets myself. Do I need all of them...NO. Just hoarding.

Who gave this a one star rating? I think it's great what Louis and others are doing to keep these old fans going. I hope to reproduce some more parts in the new year, this Corona Virus thing really screwed up my plans this past year.

Richard...I'll be honest with you...them star ratings...I did not even notice till you brought it up. Me personally...I don't care for trophies or medals...I do it because it is fun. Let them put whatever they want...I could care less.

After some tweaking I got one of Louis's Gearboxes up and running. The noises in the video are from the fan NOT the gearbox. It works smooth. The lid fits fine as well I just didn't show it in the video. https://youtu.be/BL_Md5PjweY
