Did you hit that fan with a rattle can, Daniel? Maybe it's the lighting, I could be wrong, but it looks like that fan was repainted. But a nice fan.

I have my colman deflector mounted on a 1912 Fidelity and it has (to my knowledge) never been repainted. The texture and the paint look identical to Dan's fan.

They used rough castings and I believe brushed paint at times. Mine looks the same too

They used a thick textured paint called Asphaultum. Might as well be called asphault.

Nice paint on a Fidelity like this, oscillator or not, is like lipstick on a pig.  They didn't bother to really grind off the casting flash and rough spots and the primitive looking design disguises the uniqueness of the mechanism and the fact that it really does work great and is interesting to watch as it oscillates slowly in one direction and at the speed of heat in the other.  Plus it's relatively quiet and a great conversation starter.  I refinished mine and added back some pinstripes just to help it draw more attention because even people who don't care about fans like to watch it work.

Fidelitys have grown on me as I learned about their uniqueness and somewhat primitive quality.  This 16" trunnion with all original finish came from Fanfair years ago.

The brass guard on this fan is quite soft and bendable but that made it very easy to make the guard perfectly round.  Being a brush motor it will run on both AC or DC.
